White Magic
This is the core teaching syllabus for the Light College of the Brotherhood of Magic, Grantabrugge.
Many of these spells allow you to become invisible. While invisible, you are immune to targeted effects (but not Mass or Wide effects), touch-ranged effects and weapon damage; invisibility is not distinguishable from not being there, both of these being denoted by putting your hand in the air. If you are invisible you are not inaudible - you can be heard talking. Invisibility is broken if:
- You attack anything
- You begin the vocal for any spell or miracle
- You are within the area of a Mass or Wide Detect spell or miracle to which you must respond
- You attempt to take an item from someone

- Level 0: Create Light
- Range: Touch
- Duration: 5 minutes or until released
- Effect: A beam of light equivalent to a torch shines from the caster's hand. (Caster must provide physrep if they wish to see anything with this light).
- Level 1: Cage of Light
- Range: Target
- Duration: 5 seconds
- Effect: Call "Target, HALT 5!" as bars of eyewateringly bright light spring up from the floor, momentarily disorientating your target.
- Level 1: Glorious Weapon
- Range: Touch
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: Damage from touched weapon is converted to White damage as it glows with a brilliant light. This is an 'unnatural' effect - that is, it does not stack with other weapon-affecting spell or miracle effects unless specifically stated in the description of those effects.
- Level 2: Dazzle
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: Searing light surrounds you for an instant, fading quickly until it is merely a slight sparkle as you move. This light arcs out from your eyes to strike at the next person to be so impolite as to strike you: point and call "Target, WHITE DOUBLE" within 5 seconds of you being hit with a melee weapon. This does not stack with any other spells with similar effect, including other castings of the same spell.
- Level 2: Lesser Invisibility
- Range: Self
- Duration: 10 seconds or until broken
- Effect: You shimmer and become invisible! Put your finger in the air; you are invisible for 10 seconds.
- Level 3: Cloak the Self
- Range: Self
- Duration: 30 seconds or until broken
- Effect: You shimmer and disappear! Put one finger in the air; you are invisible for 30 seconds.
- Level 3: Shattered Image
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes or until discharged
- Effect: You gain one point of floating armour for each person willingly touching you (up to 6 ) - they must be aware of what you are doing - as your image splits into that many parts and each tries to get in the way of attacks aimed for you.
- Level 4: Displaced Image
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes or until discharged
- Effect: You detach your image from your body, and the two wander around separately. You gain one point of non-regenerating DAC - when you call this DAC, you may put your finger in the air and run up to 3 metres: you weren't actually where everyone thought you were! You may also discharge this spell at any other time to move 3 metres in the same manner.
- Level 4: Phantasmal Force
- Range: Touch
- Duration: 5 minutes or until discharged
- Effect: Another co-operative spell. Up to four allies who are touching you gain 1 point of DAC as shimmering phantasms descend around them.
- Level 5: Cloak Another
- Range: Touch
- Duration: 30 seconds
- Effect: Touch your target as the spell is cast (it's good to explain why first, IC and OOC) - they shimmer and disappear! This spell is as the level 3 spell Cloak the Self but works on another person.
- Level 5: Invisibility
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: You shimmer and disappear! Put your finger in the air; you are invisible for five minutes. The invisibility may be broken in the usual manner, but may be replaced once during the five minute duration by repeating the spell vocal. If the vocal is interrupted (see Magic Rules page), the spell fails.
- Level 6: Farsight
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: You detach your image from your body and go wandering about, as for 'Displaced Image' - however- your body becomes comatose and you may wander as far as you wish from it while the spell's duration remains. Place a marker where you are. You may wander wherever you like; you take no damage from attacks but may not attack or cast any spells. When the duration expires, your image disappears: put your finger in the air and return to your marker. (You must provide a decent marker, which may be attacked while you are not there. Do not place this somewhere you cannot physically go: the refs may make you squeeze into whatever space it is you hid your marker!).
- Level 6: Illusory Feint
- Range: Self / own weapon
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: Your weapon seems to shatter into many separate images - it is harder to roll with a blow that one can barely see coming. You do +1 degree of damage, converting all weapon damage to White damage, with one weapon, which you must be holding upon completion of the spell. The magic leaves the weapon if it leaves your grasp.
- Level 7: Illusory Onslaught
- Range: Touch
- Duration: Instant
- Effect: You, and all allies touching you, gain +2 degrees of damage (converting all weapon damage into White damage) on the next damage call (weapon or spell) you make as hordes of wrathful phantasms descend upon your opponents. This explicitly stacks with unnatural damage effects, and does not dispel them.
- Level 7: Form of Fading Light
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: Once during the next 5 minutes, at will, you may become invisible for 10 seconds.
- Level 8: True Aura
- Range: Self
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Effect: Light flows into you, building into a coruscating aura that makes you almost impossible to look at or strike. Subtract one degree of damage from all damage you take.
- Level 8: True Farsight
- Range: Self
- Duration: Until the sun crosses the horizon
- Effect: INFLICT duration version of Farsight. May be resumed if cancelled (by the player returning to their marker)
