Sordan
Sordan is the god of pain and enlightment through suffering. The holy symbol of Sordan is the hook or the whip - at sea, Sordan is often known as 'the Lady of Whips'.
The Church of Sordan
Lady Alicia de Montford du Pres was often whispered as being the head of the Sordanite church in Grantabrugge, but in 1290 Lady Alicia was killed on a raid on the Du Pres mansion, and a few weeks later her servant Mary was also captured and killed.
Before the recent legalisation, there were often small gatherings of Sordanites, especially among those who believe receiving pain periodically is an essential part of enlightenment. These meetings often took place with the participants in disguise, where few would know the identity of more than one others gathered. The depravity of these 'parties' has given Common the word 'sordid' to describe such goings-on.
In the winter of 1291, several priests of various gods worked to amend the Pantheonic Treaty that binds the gods together, and one of the conditions of the amendment was that worship of all gods should be legal, even Vivamort and Sordan. This led to the conversion of one of the more opulent townhouses in the nicest district of Grantabrugge - a couple of buildings down the road from the Temple of St John - being converted into a Temple of Sordan, decorated richly, outfitted with thick velvet drapes (so you can't see inside) and with a registration desk inside. The church has a contract with the Mercenaries Guild to provide guards, and there is usually a large number of them in evidence. Initially the Temple of Sordan allowed the Vivamortians to use their basement for worship, taking safety in numbers, but by 1293 the necromancers had been evicted and the opulent Temple of Sordan Gentlemen's Club (kept well away from anything that might upset casual visitors) started to become a fashionable gathering place for minor nobility of any faith.
