Luca

Luca is goddess of dreams and nightmares. Her followers are widely regarded as wierd and wacky if not potentially dangerous, although most are peaceable enough. The Holy symbol of Luca is the feather.

The Church of Luca

The Church of Luca is very secretive, being one of the few to which the strictures cannot be easily found by an interested layperson.

Previous to 1284, the God of Dreaming was known as Morpheous, however during that year (a year before the start of CUTT) there was some upheaval involving triads of fearsome killers known as the "Mercy Guard" or "Red Foxes" (due to the device on their cloaks) arising and sweeping through Albion and the surrounding lands. These triads were formed of a mage, a priest of Morpheous and a warrior, all under some kind of strong protection possibly connected to the fae, which could only be broken using the tears of a person born of union between a mage and a priest as a blade venom. Shortly afterwards, the Mercy Guard vanished as suddenly as they had come, and priests recieved a vision telling them that their new god was Luca, Goddess of both Dreams and Nightmares.

Since the arrival of Luca, the faith has become increasingly mysterious. Certain priestesses of Luca are often vague, affecting long nightdresses and carrying their holy symbol in the stuffing of a small doll or poppet - a disturbing nod to the way Luca presented herself in her first vision, in which she carried the last remnants of Morpheous as a plaything. Nevertheless, Lucans are respected as experts on sleep and dreaming and there is a steady demand for their services as sleep doctors, dream interpreters, and more discreetly, for the sending of nightmares to enemies. Meanwhile, the paladin wing have taken on the name 'Red Foxes' in tribute to the Mercy Guard, and rarely wear nightdresses at all.

The Grantabruggan Chapterhouse of Luca was burned down in the confusion surrounding the arrival of the Orcs to Grantabrugge at the end of the 1280s. Since then, it has become even harder to find a Lucan priest on demand - although they seem to still have a base somewhere, it is rumoured that this may be underground.

The people of Grantabrugge will also be aware of Luca in connection to living Nightmares - incorporeal but terrifying creatures like dark smoke who sometimes associate with priests. Infamously, Nightmares were seen over-running the Temple of Humact during its most recent wholesale destruction in 1291.
