Sending Downtime
Please send a different email for each character you submit downtime for, with the name of your character in the subject line.
We consider that downtime has two functions. Coming in to the Refs it informs them what your character is doing and thinking, and is a crucial way of refs getting feedback on the state of play. Going back out it provides material which can be used in uptime to feed into the game, therefore we encourage that downtime replies from the refs be shared only in uptime as far as possible.
Preferred Downtime Format
Summary of XP Spend/Gain, if applicable
"I went to the Interactive and I monstered the linear, gaining 9xp. I spend 1 XP on Background Skill: Show jumping, bringing me to 173 XP with 12 XP left unspent"
Summary of Money Spend/Gain for Bank of Ref, if applicable
"I gained 10sch for the interactive (banked) and Fred paid me 15sch (in cash) for guard duty, I paid Olaf 5sch (in cash) for spilling beer on his trousers"
Summary of any special one-off things, if applicable
This should include any flange gained, special refcalls, things Refs asked for in particular this week, and such like."You asked us to tell you if we ate any of the cake that was left on the bar - I had two pieces..."
What I did in the Interactive/on the Linear, if applicable:
This is a few brief bullet points mentioning anything which especially affected your character (not a description of all events!). These might well be IC. These are NOT compulsory but are really helpful in letting refs know what your characters are thinking, as without being told this stuff the Refs can only see most of what you do and none of what you think...It also helps them see how plots are coming across in general in the bar.
DO NOT put mechanical downtime actions in this section, it is intended to be a description of past events only!
- "My supervisor came in and told me off for neglecting my studies to go adventuring, she suggested that I volunteer with one of the research mages for a few days a week to catch up."
- "Olaf was really rude to me again, I think he needs bringing down a peg or two!"
- "I heard some interesting rumours about cultists out in the fens, I wonder if they are anything to do with the Bumper Book Of Demon-Summoning that Harry got from the linear last week?I borrowed it off him to investigate."
- "When he wasn't looking, I slipped a death threat into Larry¡¦s pocket, it was very amusing when he found it there later, heehee!"
Mechanical Downtime
This should be in bullet point form and headed with a summary of your actions if it is complicated!As a guideline, try not to be performing more than three different mechanical actions.
- "I take the Bumper Book of Demon Summoning to the Temple of Balance to see if they know anything about it. I also ask the Lightists if they have heard of it, but I don't show it to them in case they try to destroy it."
- "I take my supervisor's advice and go to sign up to work with one of the Blue College research mages. I try to pick one who is researching damage spells, because I might want to research one of those myself soon."
